HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Three people including a 6-year-old child were killed in a head-on crash early Sunday morning in Orange County.
WRAL reported that it happened 3 a.m. near the split of I-85 and Interstate 40.
A Jeep Wrangler, driven by 20-year-old Michael Chandler Kania of Asheboro, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Suzuki with four people inside, according to officials. Three of the four people inside the Suzuki died.
The driver of the Suzuki was identified as 49-year-old Felicia Harris from Charlotte. The front seat passenger and a 6-year-old child in the backseat were also killed. Their names have not been released.
The fourth passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries. Kania was treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
No charges have yet been filed, but officials said alcohol may have been a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
