Rockingham County Commissioner Keith Mabe charged with second DWI
EDEN, N.C. — A Rockingham County commissioner was charged with DWI for the second time in less than a year on Saturday night, according to highway patrol.
A Highway Patrol dispatcher said a trooper stopped Keith Mabe in the driveway of his home at 254 Meadowood Road in Eden at 9:21 p.m.
The arresting trooper turned on his blue lights and tried to stop Mabe on N.C. 87, but the commissioner continued to drive to his home, according to an official.
Mabe allegedly refused analysis of his breath, a trooper secured a warrant and Mabe’s blood was drawn. The blood was sent to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
Mabe was charged with impaired driving in December after wrecking his car on N.C. 87 near Eden. His blood alcohol was 0.19 at the time of the December arrest, more than twice the state’s legal limit of 0.08.
