Man injured after being struck by lightning in Randolph County

SOPHIA, N.C. — A man is recovering in the hospital after being struck by lightning in Randolph County on Saturday afternoon.

Officials said the unidentified victim was struck while working outside a home in Sophia at about 1 p.m.

The home was at the intersection of Beckerdite Road and Hollingsworth Farm Drive, according to Randolph County emergency workers. The victim was conscious when the emergency call came in.

The victim was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available.
