Lightning strikes North Carolina church, causes massive fire

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. – Lightning struck a North Carolina church on Saturday, causing a massive fire in the building, but nobody was injured.

WBTV reported that sanctuary at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Taylorsville was destroyed after lightning from a powerful storm struck the steeple.

More than 150 firefighters were on the scene on Saturday afternoon, according to a fire official.

The biggest flames from the fire have been put out, but authorities said the building may be smoldering into the night. A cost estimate on the damage was not provided.
