NC high school teacher charged with sex offense with student
CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. — A Currituck County High School teacher was charged after allegedly having sexual contact with a student, according to WTKR.
Police began investigating 24-year-old Kimberly Lynne Umphlett’s activity after a report was filed on May 12.
The investigation revealed that Umphlett had been engaging in inappropriate sexual contact with a student sinceApril. Officials said the contact continued until school administrators reported the inappropriate conduct.
On Monday, Umphlett was indicted on a charge of felonious sex offense with a student, according to WTKR.
She turned herself in on Tuesday and her bond was set at $5,000.
Officials told WTKR Umphlett immediately bonded out and is no longer in custody.
Umphlett, who had worked as an English teacher at the school since 2013, resigned on May 18.
