BURLINGTON, N.C. — A Burlington firefighter injured in a wreck Sunday night was released from the hospital Tuesday night.

The Burlington Fire Department posted a message on Facebook Wednesday morning saying that firefighter Scott Lassiter still has a long recovery ahead.

Lassiter was injured in the wreck that killed his fellow firefighter, Michael Perry.

State Troopers said Perry was driving his 1968 Chevy east on McCray Road when he veered off the road, struck a tree, then a fence and finally a parked trailer from a tractor-trailer.

They said speeding was a factor in the accident.

According to the Facebook post, Lassiter’s doctors have advised him to continue resting.
