Teacher indicted for sexual relationship with student marries her

BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. – A now former teacher in Alabama has married a now former student that he’s accused of having a sexual relationship with.

AL.com reported that 37-year-old Matthew Shane Wester married 18-year-old Amy Nicole Cox earlier this month in Alabama.

Wester has been indicted on charges that he had an inappropriate relationship with his now wife when she was his student last year.

Wester is a former math teacher and coach in Blount County, Ala. He was indicted by a grand jury in January on one count of a teacher having sexual contact with a student.

He was placed on leave last year and has since resigned. Wester was married when the allegations started to surface and has since divorced his former wife, who got custody of his children, according to the report.

His now wife just graduated high school in May. Authorities said that since the couple’s legal status has changed, they will have to look at the case to determine how to proceed.
