North Carolina school makes list of colleges with unusual mottos

AVERY COUNTY, N.C. — Thisweek.com recently published a list of “15 unusual college mottos” and one school from North Carolina was included.

“In montibus, ex montibus, pro montibus” is the motto for Lees–McRae College in Avery County.

The motto is Latin for “In the mountains, of the mountains, for the mountains” and was included in the list.

“Lees-McRae College, in the heart of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, not only has great mountain views, it also has a focus on Appalachian culture and history,” according to Thisweek.com.

The school is a private four-year college in Banner Elk and is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church.
