‘Child predator’ from Davie County accused of trying to sexual exploit young girl

BOONE, N.C. – A Davie County man allegedly tried to sexually exploit a 14-year-old girl online, but the “girl” turned out to be an undercover police detective.

Charles “Chuck” Cardwell, 59, of Mocksville, faces various charges in connection to an online ad requesting young girls.

A Boone police detective responded to an ad online which allegedly requested young girls, saying “the younger, the better.”

The suspect allegedly arranged to meet the “girl” in Boone and when he showed up, officers arrested him.

Boone police said they searched the suspect’s vehicle and found items that show his intentions, but did not say what those items were. Police described Cardwell as a “child predator.”

The suspect faces one count each of felony first degree sexual exploitation of a minor, felony soliciting a child by computer, felony dissemination of obscenity and felony indecent liberties with a child.

Cardwell was jailed under a $200,000 secured bond and has court planned for next week.
