Winston-Salem man convicted of abusing 5-week-old daughter

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.  — A Forsyth County man was sentenced to at least six years in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges he physically abused his 5-week-old daughter, leaving her with a fractured skull and other injuries.

Dennis Ernest Brower, 24, entered a guilty plea to one count of attempted felony child abuse, inflicting serious bodily injury. Brower was initially charged with felony child abuse, inflicting serious bodily injury, but pleaded guilty to the reduced charge as part of the plea arrangement.

Brower also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault on a female. He was accused of hitting his girlfriend, Sydne Grier, in the right eye and left cheek, according to court documents. Grier is the mother of Brower’s daughter.
