WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Bill Milburn and John Roland have stories to tell. So many, in fact, that it’s hard to know where to begin telling them, according to The Winston-Salem Journal.

It can be like that for two men who’ve been close friends for 80 years. That’s quite a feat, especially in an age when many friendships can be fleeting or superficial, based in the glow of a computer screen rather than actual human experience.

“What is it the hipsters and computer kids say these days? John and I are BFFs,” Milburn said with a broad smile crossing his face.

They’ve been close through grammar and high school, college and military service, raising families and having careers. And the one constant in all of it is each other.
