Mother charged with DWI in North Carolina wreck that killed 3-year-old son

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A mother has been charged with DWI in a North Carolina wreck that killed her 3-year-old son and seriously injured her 7-year-old.

WCNC reported that 26-year-old Chantee Tranise Boyd faces charges of felony death by vehicle, felony serious injury, child abuse, reckless driving and DWI.

The crash happened around midnight Sunday as the mother was driving in Charlotte, according to officials.

She lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and drove into a median and later hit another car, according to reports.

The 3-year-old died at the scene and the 7-year-old was taken to a hospital, according to WCNC.

Speed and alcohol are considered factors. The mother and the driver of the other car suffered minor injuries, according to authorities.
