Big fish: 680-pound blue marlin wins annual North Carolina tournament

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. — The crew of the fishing boat “Viking 62” won the 57th annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament with a 680 pound catch.

WNCT reported that the massive blue marlin was big enough to win 26 of the past 30 Big Rock competitions. The event recently took place in Morehead City.

The Viking 62 crew won $560,500 from the Big Rock’s $1,632,650 purse, according to the TV station.

Captain Van Pierce from Trinity was part of the “EZ Boy” crew that reeled in a whopping 556.3-pound blue marlin for second place.
