Plane crash near airport in Siler City kills 1, injures 1

SILER CITY, N.C. — A single-engine plane crashed into a wooded area near an airport in Siler City around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.

An airport spokeswoman said the Beechcraft Bonanza plane was approaching the Siler City Municipal Airport at the time of the crash.

Barbara Para, 69, of Whispering Pines, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Her husband, Frederick Para, 72, was airlifted to UNC Hospitals and is in stable condition.

The FAA is investigating.
