GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Saturday’s PTI Run the Runways event is a partnership to stock shelves in Piedmont Triad-area food banks.

James Caldwell, with Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, said the event planning began back in the fall of last year. Caldwell said though Second Harvest is not at emergency need, their shelves are not full and they want to prepare for the summer months when donations are the least.

“They are lean for us because there’s so much going on with vacations and kids out of school,” Caldwell said. “We can’t thank the community enough because it’s going to take the community to get this all under control.”

Each participant in the one-mile walk, 5K or 10K is asked to give at least two nonperishable food items.

The donations Saturday will be divided into thirds between Second Harvest, Open Door Ministries in High Point and Greensboro Urban Ministry.

Registration for the run can be done online or at area Omega Sports stores Friday.
