Suspect in Greensboro Budget Inn shooting identified

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Police are investigating a shooting that happened early Tuesday morning at a motel in Greensboro.

Antonio Starnes, 43, was shot in the parking lot of the Budget Inn located at 512 Farragut St. at approximately 7:50 a.m.

It was initially unclear whether Starnes, who lived at the Budget Inn, had been shot or stabbed.

Starnes was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A witness provided a description of the alleged shooter who was later located by police and taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Sherman Frederick Bowen, who also resided at the Budget Inn.

Bowen is charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.

Bowen and Starnes previously knew each other, according to a release.

The motive for the shooting is still unclear at this point. Police are not looking for other suspects.

Another shooting happened at the same motel in April.
