LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A group of students at Lincolnton High School are working to raise money to help their classmate get a new wheelchair, according to WBTV.

Oscar Martinez, 22, has Cerebral Palsy and is in the special education program at Lincolnton High School.

When his motorized scooter that was donated to him in 2008 started to fall apart, some of his classmates decided to take action.

“It kills me because he deserves so much more than that, I mean he deserves a chair that’s going to last him forever and help him the rest of his life,” junior Janie Woodward told WBTV.

His classmates organized a fundraiser using GoFundMe and have raised more than $7,000. Their goal is $35,000, which would go toward buying Martinez a new chair.
