LEXINGTON, N.C. — A woman is accused of child abuse with two 9-year-old children, according to Lexington police.

Kimberly Marie Barnes, 36, of Lexington, is charged with intentional child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.

Barnes allegedly committed the offenses in October 2014, police said. She is accused of using excessive physical discipline on the children, which caused bruising on their bodies.

Barnes is the children’s stepmother, according to police.

She was placed in the Davidson County Detention Center on Friday under a $50,000 secured bond. She is scheduled to appear in court June 9.
