Man dies after single-vehicle crash in High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. — An 81-year-old man died after a single-vehicle crash Sunday in High Point, according to the High Point Police Department.

Linvel Pierce died after police said his vehicle crossed lanes, left the road and struck a fence, a utility pole and some trees.

Police said they responded to the crash shortly after noon on Westchester Drive in between Wickliff Avenue and Chestnut Drive. The victim was driving southbound on Westchester Drive when it happened, according to police.

Police said Pierce died either while on the way to High Point Regional Hospital or at High Point Regional Hospital.

All traffic is closed on Westchester Drive between Wickliff Avenue and Chestnut Drive. Traffic will be closed until at least 8 p.m. Sunday, according to police. The investigation is ongoing.
