35 people displaced after fire at Mount Airy apartment complex

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. -- A fire at a Mount Airy apartment complex displaced 35 people on Thursday evening, according to officials.

The fire happened at 1007 S. Main St. Six of the 14 units in the complex were damaged.

Officials said the majority of the damage was smoke damage.

Some of the displaced residents will stay at the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department tonight. Others will stay at hotels, officials said.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire has not been determined.
