UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina trooper was arrested and charged with assaulting a woman in Union County Sunday.

The victim told police Trooper Bryan Kirkpatrick choked her several times in the bathroom of their home and prevented her from calling 911.

According to WBTV, the woman who lived with Kirkpatrick later filed a domestic protection order against him.

In court documents the woman noted that Kirkpatrick threatened to shoot her and make it look like she committed suicide. She also said he slashed her tires.

The victim told investigators that her daughter tried to call 911 but Kirkpatrick took the phone away from her.

Kirkpatrick has also filed a domestic violence protection order. He said the woman attacked him.

In court documents Kirkpatrick said the woman punched him in the face and grabbed his groin.

He told police the woman threatened to shoot him with a shotgun.

Three children were home at the time of the disturbance, according to WBTV.

The couple’s court date is set for May 12.

Kirkpatrick will be on administrative duty until an internal investigation and a criminal investigation is completed by the Union County Sheriff’s Department.
