RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina man is accused of shooting and killing his pregnant girlfriend, but doctors were able to save the baby girl.

WRAL reported that 25-year-old Daniel Joseph Steele is charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of 25-year-old Kimberly Dianne Richardson.

The suspect is accused of shooting the victim shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday in Raleigh. The victim was rushed to the hospital and died on Sunday morning, according to officials.

Richardson was said to have been six months pregnant. The baby girl survived and was at the hospital, according to WRAL.

The suspect was arrested shortly after the fatal shooting at his home and has been charged with murder. A possible motive has not been released.
