Prison inmate charged in 1989 Jamestown cold case

JAMESTOWN, N.C. — Hope of finding her killer was fading for the family of a Jamestown woman who was shot and killed on a trail at High Point City Lake Park.

Who killed 25-year-old Vicki Cook VonCannon remained a mystery; a mystery that caused her family to ache.

But, on Monday, Guilford County deputies charged a North Carolina prison inmate in VonCannon’s May 16, 1989 death.

William Henry Parker, 58, has been in prison, off and on, since his 1983 conviction on a manslaughter charge. He now faces a charge of second-degree murder in VonCannon’s death.
