NC officials: 2 people competing to create bombs

CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. —The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Cleveland County investigators are trying to track down a man accused of making homemade bombs and detonating them on a local road.

Deputies said last week they found 15 explosives on three roads south of Boiling Springs.

Investigators said they believe 19-year-old Garrett Whisnant who they charged and the person they are searching for may have been in a competition to see who could make the better bomb.
