INDIANAPOLIS — University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams donated a seat to the NCAA championship game in memory of the late Butch Ryan, the father of Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan, according to the Badgers’ official Twitter page.

Bo and Butch Ryan never missed a Final Four, according to Wisconsin.

Butch Ryan passed away in August 2013.

Williams made a similar promise during last year’s NCAA tournament. If Wisconsin had defeated Kentucky in the Final Four last year, Williams promised to leave the second seat in his pair of National Championship tickets empty in honor of Butch Ryan.

Analyst Verne Lundquist shared the story during the Wisconsin vs. Michigan State game on March 1.
