FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Authorities said a rabid fox jumped over a fence and attacked and bit an 8-year-old boy playing outside a North Carolina elementary school.
WTVD reported that it happened Friday afternoon at E.E. Miller Elementary School in Fayetteville. Officials have confirmed that the fox tested positive for rabies.
No other children were attacked, and the child was taken to the hospital. Animal control officers later captured the animal after it ran into a nearby wooded area.
Officials said the child has now started post-rabies exposure treatment. This is the fourth case of rabies in Cumberland County this year.
