MADERA, Calif. — A California man wanted for car theft allegedly spray-painted his face to hide from officers.

Jose Espinoza, 23, was caught with a stolen vehicle Saturday night and then escaped from law enforcement, according to a post on the City of Madera Police Department Facebook page.

When officers arrested him the second time he had spray-painted his face black to disguise himself.

“The camouflage was ineffective,” police wrote in the post.

Espinoza was placed in jail on charges of receiving known stolen property, and theft and unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle.

His bail was set at $35,000.
