DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- An accident in Davidson County involving three vehicles left five people injured Monday evening.

The accident happened at about 5:50 p.m. near the intersection of N.C. 109 and Old N.C. 109, according to Davidson EMS.

Investigators say a pickup truck heading north on N.C. 109 stopped to make a turn when the driver of a red Ford car didn't slow down and slammed into the truck.

The impact forced the pickup into the path of a Nissan Altima that was traveling south on 109.

The driver of the Altima had to be airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center by Air Care. Four others were transported to Baptist by ambulance.

Investigators believe the driver of the Ford car may have been distracted by a cell phone. Charges are pending.

No names have been released.
