ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A woman recently reported missing in Asheville may have actually disappeared 21 years ago from New Jersey, according to WLOS.

“I have spent 21 years looking for Renee. My parents died looking for Renee,” her sister Margaret LaManna said by phone Tuesday afternoon.

A Silver Alert was issued Monday for Renee LaManna, 56, on Monday. She was last seen hitchhiking near the TA Truck Stop in Haywood County. The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons reports LaManna disappeared in 1994 from her sister’s home in Ocean City, New Jersey when she was 35.

The center says LaManna suffers from Dissociative Fugue Disorder, which could cause her not to remember her name or how long she’s been away. Her family believes she may be hitchhiking to Florida.
