Three in a month: People in this North Carolina county keep winning $1 million

McDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A third person this month in McDowell County has won at least $1 million in the lottery, according to lottery officials.

The North Carolina Education Lottery has announced that Russell Guffey has become the latest winner after buying a $20 ticket for the $200 Million Blowout game.

The sales representative from Nebo took the $600,000 lump sum of his $1 million prize, according to the lottery. He said he can’t retire, but will take a year off.

A retired locomotive engineer won $1 million last Wednesday and two days later, a manufacturing worker won $4 million, all three from McDowell County.
