GREENSBORO, N.C. — Police are asking for the public’s help gathering more information about a Greensboro woman found dead in an abandoned home.

A funeral will be held Saturday for Sonya Annette Buckner, 45, who was found dead March 7 in a home at 405 E. Whittington St. Police responded to the address after a 911 caller reported the body, according to police Capt. Mike Richey.

A preliminary report from the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner states that Buckner “died from significant blood loss caused by a laceration to her body.”

“She died of lacerations,” Richey said. “It’s not stab wounds.”

Investigators weren’t able to positively identify Buckner until Monday morning, Richey said.
