WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A water main break is causing come major issues for workers and drivers in Winston-Salem tonight.
The break, located at the intersection of Second and Main Streets, is believed to have been caused by the frigid cold temperatures experienced in the Triad last week.
Last Friday, crews noticed water gushing out of the bottom of a light post located farther down Main Street, and immediately began trying to figure out where it was coming from. Today, they were able to trace the water to the leak under Main Street.
Duke Energy was called to the scene to cut through the road and give workers access to the break. The surrounding area was closed off to drivers, including Main Street between Third and First streets, as well as Second Street down to Liberty Street.
Workers say it could take several hours to repair the break. They plan to work into and through the incoming snow storm to do so.
