GREENSBORO, N.C. — Following the recent winter weather, crews around the Piedmont are working to make sure roads are safe for travel.

The City of Greensboro released the following update Monday evening regarding their response to the storm.

“Greensboro’s field operations crews continue to work around the clock to treat the roadways affected by tonight’s storm (crews began salting at 4 pm). The second shift just started at 9 pm and will continue salting and scraping until 9 am tomorrow. At this point, estimates are that we have 1-2 inches of snow on the roads with a layer of sleet on top.

Unfortunately, while the volume of precipitation has not been high, the impact is significant and we expect roadways to be extremely dangerous in the morning. Thus far, we have seen 73 accidents within city limits since 3 pm.”

The city is expected to provide another update prior to 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.
