NC teaching assistant charged with sex crimes involving student

RALEIGH, N.C. — A teaching assistant at Wakefield High School is facing three felony sex charges involving a student.

Anthony Harris, 27, resigned Tuesday before being arrested.

“Safety of our students is a top priority of the Wake County Public School System,” said school spokesperson Lisa Luten. “We are currently conducting an internal investigation of the incident, along with cooperating fully with Raleigh Police Department’s investigation.”

Counseling is being offered to students at Wakefield.

Harris was released on bond and was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

He is expected in court Wednesday morning.
