DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — The person who died in a single-vehicle crash on northbound I-85 near U.S. 64 Tuesday afternoon was identified as Myron Kent Wilson, 61, of Charlotte.

Wilson, who was driving a 2009 Toyoya Corolla, approached slow traffic and swerved to avoid a collision just before crashing into trees off of I-85, about two miles south of the rest area, Highway Patrol Trooper S.E. McHenry said. The vehicle struck a small tree, started to overturn and then crashed into another tree before stopping.

McHenry said Wilson was traveling 80 miles per hour in a 70-mph zone.

No one else was inside the vehicle. Wilson was wearing a seatbelt.

The accident happened shortly before 2 p.m.

Multiple lanes of I-85 were closed.
