WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Two people were transported to the hospital Wednesday after a fire broke out at a Winston-Salem home.

The fire started at a single-story home located at 132 Scott Hollow Drive just after 7 a.m.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire but the home sustained major smoke and fire damage. The estimated property damage is $50,000.

Everyone in the home was able to escape safely.

Officials said the fire was caused by improper disposal of smoking material.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
