Man arrested for attempted purse thefts at Winston-Salem Walmarts

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man is in custody accused of two attempts to rob women in Walmart parking lots.

Stephen Thomkins Jr., 40, of Winston-Salem, is charged with two counts of attempted common law robbery.

Early Saturday morning, officers responded to two separate robbery attempts that took place at Walmarts located at 3475 Parkway Village Court and 4550 Kester Mill Road.

In each incident, Thompkins allegedly attempted to forcibly remove purses from female patrons as they were walking through the parking lot. The suspect was unsuccessful in both attempts.

No booking photo of Thompkins has been released by police.
