ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- From security cameras to security guards, Evangelical Methodist Church is stepping up safety after several car break-ins in church parking lots last week.

Officials say one car was broken into in the parking lot of the church on Sunday while churchgoers were inside.

Less than a mile away, another car was broken into at Fairview Baptist Church. Both cars had broken windows and had purses stolen from inside.

Pastor Aaron Withrow says he plans on having between six to eight church leaders in the parking lot to keep watch. He also plans on buying security cameras to place outside the church and the daycare center next door.

Anyone with information is asked to call Rockingham County Crime Stoppers at (336) 349-9683.
