Pregnant SC teen dies in crash, unborn twins saved and alive

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A pregnant teen died in a crash on Tuesday, but her unborn twins were saved.

A similar incident happened less than 50 miles away in North Carolina on Tuesday. The unborn child in that accident was rescued but later died Tuesday evening.

The South Carolina incident happened when two vehicles collided on Skylyn Drive around 1 p.m., according to WBTW.

Ashton Gailann Hughes, 19, was killed when her van ran into an SUV as she was driving from a hospital appointment with an 11-month-old in the car.

Hughes was taken to the Spartanburg Medical Center where she died during surgery.

The 11-month-old in her van and the driver of the SUV were not injured during the accident.

The accident is under investigation.
