GREENSBORO, N.C. - A cold blast is heading to the Triad.  Temperatures over the next several days will struggle to reach above freezing with lows dipping into the single digits.

"We crank up the fire place," Stephanie Ray said, who is looking to stay home during the cold days.  "Just try to keep everyone warm."

Space heaters, gas logs and even outdoor faucet covers are selling fast at home improvement stores.

While many people will be staying warm, animal advocates are reminding people about outdoor pets.

"They need to bring them in," Debbie Allen said. "It's just too cold."

Allen has rescued dogs and cats for 40 years and said she believes even dog houses with cedar chips are not enough for pets when temperatures drop to the single digits.
