Accused drunk driver crashes into NC police vehicle, seriously injuries officer

DURHAM, N.C. — Authorities said a Durham police officer was seriously injured when an alleged drunk driver crashed into the officer’s marked police SUV.

WTVD-TV reported that 37-year-old Marcus Leon Fox faces charges of felony hit-and-run and driving while impaired in connection to the incident.

Police said it happened shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday on Geer Street. The suspect allegedly jumped out of his vehicle and ran, but he was caught shortly later.

Lt. L.D. Campbell was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries that are not life-threatening.

The suspect also faces charges of driving while his license was revoked, running a red light, and simple possession of marijuana.
Both vehicles are said to be total losses.
