FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. —  The man who allegedly struggled with a police officer and choked her during a foot chase turned himself in to the Fayetteville Police Department Tuesday.

Robert Dooley, 44, was accompanied by a family member after they found out he was wanted in connection with the assault of an officer.

It happened around 11:55 p.m. Monday at the Crescent Commons Apartment complex off Cliffdale Road.

Police were called by a resident about a suspicious person attempting to break into vehicles in the parking lot.

A female officer approached the man who ran away. She followed, and found him behind a row of apartment complex garage buildings.
