Big props for a local acting company

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- A trio of famous playwrights had their pick of any stage in the country for the premiere for their newest play. But did they go with New York, Los Angeles or Chicago? No, playgoers in the Piedmont will get to see it first!

Dave Wright is the director of the play "Last Roundup of the Guacamole Queens."

"I was at dinner at a local restaurant and they called and said they talked about, that it was unanimous, that they want Paramount Acting Company to do their 14th play,” he said. “I said, 'as soon as I get up off this floor, yes!'"

The writing team of Jones, Hope and Wooten, best known for their play "Dixie Swim Classic," are very well known in the arts world.

"Since 2008, there have been over 3100 productions of their plays, 21,000 performances before a million and a half people in all 50 states," said Wright.

"Last Roundup of the Guacamole Queens" is a comedy, about three wild, wisecracking women from Sweet Gum, Texas.

The play starts Thursday and runs through Sunday at the Paramount Theater in downtown Burlington. For tickets or more information, call 336-222-8497.
