NC woman arrested for Burlington hit-and-run
BURLINGTON, N.C. — Police on Friday arrested a Green Level, N.C., woman after she hit another car on Grace Avenue and then fled the scene.
At about 6 a.m. Burlington Police officers responded to the intersection of Grace Avenue and James Street in reference to a motor vehicle accident.
A 1994 Chevrolet Blazer driven by David Whitlow, 49, of Grace Avenue, was traveling west on Grace Avenue.
As Whitlow approached the intersection of James Street, his vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a 2005 Dodge Neon that was traveling north on James Street.
Whitlow’s vehicle then struck a utility pole at the intersection, causing him to be pinned in the vehicle.
A witness reported the occupants in the Dodge Neon — two men and one woman — fled the scene on foot.
Whitlow was airlifted to UNC-Chapel Hill for treatment of his injuries, where he is listed in critical condition.
Officers were able to locate the driver of the suspect vehicle based on the registered owner. The driver was identified as Lakisha Sheyanne Bailey, 17, of 2038-6 NC Hwy .49 North, Green Level.
Bailey was charged with felony hit & run, no operators license and failure to stop at a stop sign,
She was placed in the Alamance County Jail under a $5,000.00 secured bond.
