ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. – A North Carolina family has lost their mother, 12 dogs and is homeless after a house fire.

WWAY-TV reported that the fire happened at a home in Elizabethtown early Saturday morning.

Shari Ross woke up from the blaze at about 2:30 a.m. and the family only had minutes to escape, according to authorities.

Officials said six people were inside the home at the time. All of them made it out, except for Patricia Clay, who died in the fire, according to the report.

Clay was Ross’ mother, according to WWAY-TV.

The family also had 25 dogs, 12 of which were killed, according to the report.
