NC babysitter charged after child found with fractured skull, ribs
GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina babysitter was charged after authorities said a baby in her care suffered from skull and rib fractures.
The Charlotte Observer reported that LaShea Lynne Medlin, 35, of Gaston County, was charged Wednesday after a Gaston County police investigation.
Authorities said the suspect was recently babysitting a relative’s 2-month old baby. The parents reportedly found the child to have a scratch on the face, “weak eyes” and “was not moving properly.”
The suspect allegedly told officials that the child had rolled off a couch.
The child was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia and later to Levine’s Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, according to the paper. Authorities said they found rib fractures on the child.
The suspect has been charged with two counts of felony child abuse and was jailed under a $200,000 secured bond. She had court planned for Thursday.
