ADVANCE, N.C. -- Hundreds gathered in Advance to celebrate the grand opening of Ashley Furniture's 1.7 million-square-foot expansion.
Since 2012, about 20 percent of Ashley Furniture's products have been made at its Davie County campus which employs close to 700 people. With the new facility, company leaders hope to add about 150 more jobs.
This comes as good news to Davie County leaders who over the past 10 years have been struggling to get the county back on its feet after losing three major manufacturing companies.
Crowd Wood products, which made television cabinets, cut 750 jobs.
Lexington Furniture, which made bedroom furniture, cut 350 jobs, and Baker Furniture cut 250 jobs.
"I never thought we'd see it coming back," said Terry Bralley, president of Davie County's Economic Development.
