GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Greensboro police say they are trying to piece together an unusual case after responding to a 3-vehicle wreck Thursday and finding a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The Watch Commander commented that in 26 years on the job, he has never seen anything like it.

Police originally responded to a reported hit-and-run accident at Huffman Street and East Wendover.

It was later determined to be a wreck involving three vehicles. An actual hit-and-run has not been confirmed.

When first responders arrived they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound rather than injuries from a traffic accident.

Officials say the man, who has not been identified, was scheduled for surgery Thursday.

The incident was first reported around 6:30 p.m. Thursday and is under investigation by Greensboro police.

No arrests have been made as of Friday morning.
