FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police say a report Wednesday of an attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old at a bus stop was fabricated, according to WTVD-TV.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office issued a crime alert after the boy said a man tried to abduct him at his school bus stop.

Fayetteville police say the allegations were false. They say residents of the Barrington Place Apartment complex should not be alarmed.

Detectives are working with the family of the child who made the report.
