NC man accidentally sets up drug deal with deputies via text message

MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. – A North Carolina man is accused of accidentally setting up a drug deal with deputies via text message.

WLOS-TV reported that Wayne Matthew Elliott, 40, of McDowell County, said he mistakenly set up a drug deal with the head of a local narcotics unit.

Authorities said it happened Friday after the suspect allegedly texted Lt. Chris Taylor, who heads up the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office narcotics.

The suspect allegedly said in the text message that he was looking to sell one-half gram of meth.

Lt. Taylor set up a time to meet the suspect, who allegedly had a small amount of meth and drug paraphernalia on him and was taken into custody.

Elliott has been charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was also served with an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.
